Biography
Aliko Dangote is Africa's richest person and one of the continent's most consequential industrialists. Born in Kano, Nigeria in 1957, he built the Dangote Group from a commodity trading business into a pan-African industrial conglomerate spanning cement, sugar, flour, salt, tomato paste, and petrochemicals, with operations across twenty African countries.
## Industrialising Africa
Dangote's central mission — to industrialise Africa by replacing imported goods with locally manufactured products — has been transformative across the continent. His Dangote Cement plant alone is the largest industrial facility in sub-Saharan Africa. The completion of his massive Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos — the largest in Africa — will fundamentally alter Nigeria's dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
## Uae-Nigeria Business Partnership
The UAE and Nigeria enjoy one of the most significant bilateral economic relationships on the Africa-Gulf corridor.
