Ban Ki-moon · Former UN Secretary-General. Climate Statesman. Global Peacemaker.
Biography
United Nations in building a safer, more sustainable, and ." more equitable world." Ban Ki-moon served as the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations from 2007 to 2016, leading the world's most complex multilateral institution through a decade of extraordinary challenge — the global financial crisis, the Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war, the Ebola pandemic, and the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. Born in Eumseong, South Korea in 1944, he rose through South Korean diplomacy to become the second Asian to lead the United Nations.
## Climate And The Paris Accord
Among Ban Ki-moon's most enduring legacies is his role in advancing the global climate agenda. He convened the 2014 UN Climate Summit that generated the political momentum for Paris, and his personal commitment to climate action — continued through the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate — helped transform climate change from an environmental concern to a mainstream economic and security priority.
## Uae As Un'S Strategic Partner
The UAE became one of the most consistent and generous contributors to UN humanitarian operations during Ban Ki-moon's tenure. From the world's largest per-capita humanitarian donor to its hosting of key UN agency offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the UAE's partnership with the United Nations system has been a model of what a mid-size nation can contribute to global peace and development. Ban Ki-moon has cited the UAE's humanitarian record as exemplary. of the United Nations and for his profound recognition of the UAE as one of the international community's most generous and effective partners in building the sustainable and peaceful world the UN Charter envisions.
