Biography
Dame Ellen MacArthur is the fastest solo sailor to circumnavigate the globe and the founder of one of the most influential environmental organisations of our time. Born in Whatstandwell, England in 1976, she broke the world solo circumnavigation record in 2005, completing the 27,354-mile voyage in 71 days. But it was her subsequent mission that would prove her greatest voyage: pioneering the concept of the circular economy.
## The Circular Economy Revolution
After retiring from competitive sailing, MacArthur founded the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2010, dedicating herself to accelerating the transition from a linear 'take-make-waste' economy to a circular model in which resources are kept in use for as long as possible. The Foundation has partnered with governments, corporations, and educational institutions worldwide, making the circular economy the defining framework for sustainable business in the 21st century.

The UAE's own circular economy policy, adopted as a pillar of its national sustainability strategy, draws directly on the frameworks developed by the MacArthur Foundation.
