Biography
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is one of the most formidable figures in global economic governance. Born in Delta State, Nigeria in 1954, she served twice as Nigeria's Finance Minister and in 2021 became the first African and first woman to serve as Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
## Reforming Nigeria'S Economy
As Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala led Nigeria's debt relief negotiations that cancelled $30 billion in debt and pioneered transparent governance reforms that are now studied as benchmarks across Sub-Saharan Africa.
## The Wto And Global Trade Justice
At the WTO she has championed vaccine equity, agricultural reform for developing nations, and digital trade frameworks. Her advocacy for Africa's integration into global value chains aligns with the UAE's vision as Africa's gateway to the world.
