Biography
Cecilia Malmstrom served as European Commissioner for Trade from 2014 to 2019, leading EU trade policy through negotiations of TTIP, EU-Canada CETA, and multiple Asian and African trade agreements. Born in Stockholm in 1968.
## Championing Rules-Based Trade
During her tenure she championed WTO reform, fought against protectionist trends, and negotiated trade agreements that opened markets while maintaining high standards for labour rights and environmental protection.
## Uae-Eu Trade Partnership
The UAE is one of the EU's most important trading partners in the Gulf. Malmstrom recognised the UAE's open investment regime and rule-based commercial environment as among the most conducive to European business. service to free and fair trade and for recognising the UAE's open trade framework as a model of how economies prosper through openness.
