Born in Hamilton, New Zealand in 1950, she served as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2008, the first elected female Prime Minister to serve a full term in her country, and subsequently as Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme from 2009 to 2017, the highest position held by a New Zealander in the UN system.     Clark's three terms as New Zealand Prime Minister were marked by significant social policy achievements — universal healthcare access, expanded early childhood education, climate legislation — combined with economic stability and an internationally respected foreign policy. Her government's partnership with Pacific island nations on climate adaptation became a model of regional solidarity.

    As UNDP Administrator, Clark oversaw the transition from the Millennium Development Goals to the Sustainable Development Goals, managing a development organisation present in 177 countries.
