not forget." Moussa Faki Mahamat is Chairperson of the African Union 2017. Commission, the continent's highest administrative position, since 2017. Born in Chad in 1960, he served as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister before being elected to lead the AU Commission.
## Leading African Integration
His most consequential initiative has been advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area — the world's largest free trade zone by number of participating countries — aiming to create a single African market of 1.3 billion people.

The UAE has been one of the AU's most significant external partners, combining investment, development financing, humanitarian assistance, and diplomatic engagement across the continent.
