Reshma Saujani is the founder of Girls Who Code, the non-profit organisation that has become the largest pipeline for female future computer science professionals in the United States and beyond. Born in Illinois in 1975 to Indian immigrant parents, she was the first South Asian American woman to run for US Congress, and pivoted from politics to education entrepreneurship with extraordinary results.
## Girls Who Code Revolution
Girls Who Code was founded in 2012 with twelve girls in a single classroom. Today, it has reached over 500,000 girls across all 50 US states and 100 countries, creating after-school clubs, summer immersion programmes, and a global community of young women who code. The organisation has helped close the gender gap in computer science in participating schools and has built a pipeline of female engineers that is visibly transforming the technology industry.
